The Bach Collegium Instrumentalists taught a Master Class for Canterbury students on period instruments during our 2017 Baroque Festival at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They learned about a cello you hold on your shoulder and holding a bow like chopsticks.

Not only did the students learn about baroque period instruments, they all tried their hand at playing a baroque violin and a viola da gamba.

Under Marilyn Fung’s direction, students played a viola da gamba and learned how to hold chopsticks.

Which is the way to hold a viola da gamba bow.
