Philip Spray Won’t Help

The bass continuo part usually helps the Collegium basses. Alas, the bass part leads the basses astray in Sunday’s Bach.

Or at least try to.

Join us as we welcome back Philip Spray playing the violone/baroque bass. Will he succeed in leading the basses astray?

7 pm. St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Tickets still available at the door and online.

Early Instruments Master Class 2017

The Bach Collegium Instrumentalists taught a Master Class for Canterbury students on period instruments during our 2017 Baroque Festival at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They learned about a cello you hold on your shoulder and holding a bow like chopsticks.

Not only did the students learn about baroque period instruments, theyĀ all tried their hand at playing a baroque violin and a viola da gamba.

Under Marilyn Fung’s direction, students played a viola da gamba and learned how to hold chopsticks.

Which is the way to holdĀ a viola da gamba bow.
